Elizabeth Cady Stanton was born on November 12th in

Johnstown, New York in 1815. Early in her life, Elizabeth went

against tradition. Though she married, she refused to follow the

social norms, which included her husband controlling every aspect

of her life. Women were not even allowed to speak at public events,

so in 1848 Elizabeth and Quaker minster Lucretia Mott established

their own meetings called the Women’s Right Convention. Elizabeth

would soon be joined by Susan B. Anthony and over the next few \

years, Elizabeth and Susan were able to give married women equal

rights for keeping their wages and children. Though there were

these victories, women still did not have the vote. So, Elizabeth and

Susan established the National Women’s Suffrage Association.

Though Elizabeth was never able to see her dream come true, she

never gave up.
