Doris Haddock was born in Laconia, New Hampshire on January 24, 1910. Doris believed the government was held by its citizens. On New Years Day 1999, Doris decided to walk from the Pacific Coast and by the time she was done with her walk, everyone in the country knew her as Granny D. While walking she carried a yellow flag with the words National Campaign Finance Reform on it. Doris believed that the government is elected by the people and this was not happing because money was talking instead of people. All her life, Doris worked on women feminist plays and demonstrations against the testing of hydrogen bombs. By the time she had finished her walk, she would walk over 3000 miles eventually to Washington D.C. Granny D encouraged all groups of people to come together and take a stand to get back their country.
