Dolores Huerta was born in Dawson, New Mexico on April 10th 1930. Dolores grew up in working on a farm where she and her family would pick fruit that would be sent all over the county. Eventually she became a teacher and taught the children of the farms that she once worked on. Unhappy with the living conditions, Dolores left teaching and began working with Community Service Organizations. The CSO worked to help poor workers who lived in the Los Angeles Spanish neighborhoods. Eventually Dolores Huerta with Cesar Chaves would form the National Farm Workers Association, which would eventually become the United Farm Workers to help get fair treatment and wages for workers. This would take years of protests, striking and having both Anglo and Hispanics work together. Finally in 1975, the governor of California signed the first law to protect farm workers rights. Dolores Huerta continues to work for people’s right all over the world.
