Alice Paul was born in Moorestown, New Jersey on January 11th 1885. Alice was someone who did not like to sit idly by. When she graduated from Swarthmore College she decided to eventually get six more degrees including economics, social work and three law degrees. After this she went on to England to work with suffrages over there and helped organized protests. Though Alice was not like the other suffragists in the past. She would not only protest but at times refused to eat. When she came home she settled in Washington D.C. and helped organize more protests. One of her most famous protests was on March 3rd 1913 the day before President Woodrow Wilson’s inaugural march. Within a few years she established the National Women’s Party. Alice never gave up and on August 18th 1920, the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote was granted. After this victory, Alice began her fight for an Equal Rights Amendment, where it would be against the law to discriminate against females She would continue this fight and the rights for all women for the rest of her life.
